Special Education

What is the Special Education Department?

Weare Middle School is dedicated to providing an inclusion for students with disabilities. All students at WMS are integrated into regular education classrooms and programs whenever possible. Therapists and support staff have the flexibility to work in classrooms as partners with the classroom teachers and to use a variety of small therapy rooms if it is necessary to work with students outside of the regular classroom.

At WMS we have one special education teacher or Inclusion Facilitator at each grade level. The Inclusion Facilitator’s job is to provide services and support to students’ with disabilities in the areas of reading, math and writing. Each Inclusion Facilitator works closely with the grade level classroom teachers to support children with disabilities. In addition to working with students who have disabilities, the Inclusion Facilitators also work with students without disabilities under our RTI or Response to Intervention model. This allows us to provide support to all students regardless of whether or not they have an educational disability and allows us the flexibility to intervene prior to students failing.

Buildings and Grounds

What is building and grounds?
The Buildings and Grounds department organizes and performs the maintenance and repair activities on the school buildings, surrounding grounds, physical properties, machinery, equipment, and other facilities.

Our Mission
The Buildings and Grounds department’s mission is to serve the school by providing professional and effective facility maintenance and operation services to ensure an attractive and efficient physical plant that will provide students, teachers, staff, and visitors a safe and productive environment to learn, work, and enjoy recreational and cultural events.

Types of Maintenance Requests
Triage is the assignment of degrees of urgency to maintenance requests to decide the order of service. This is especially critical when experiencing a large number maintenance requests and having limited resources. Maintenance requests are broken down into three degrees of urgency - emergency, urgent, and routine.

Emergency Request
An emergency condition exists when there is an immediate threat to life or property such as a natural gas leak, a water line rupture, an activating smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, etc.

Urgent Request
An urgent condition exists when there is no immediate threat to life or property, but if the problem is not corrected in a timely manner it may become an emergency condition. Examples are a clogged sink, a clogged toilet, all stove burners not operating, refrigerator not cooling, etc.

Routine Request
A routine service order is any task which does not meet the definition of emergency or urgent. Examples are loose door knobs, loose screws or hinges, torn window screens, moving furniture, etc.

Facilities Reservations
The school offers a number of facilities (cafeteria, gym, meeting rooms, etc.) which can be reserved by the community. The Buildings and Grounds department does NOT schedule or manage facilities reservations.
