PowerSchool - Online Distance Learning Courses

What are the online distance training courses?
The online distance training courses are provided by Pearson for online distance training on PowerSchool.

Who are the online distance courses designed for?
The courses have been designed for PowerSchool users in the roles of administrator, staff, and teachers.

How do I access the online distance courses?
Any computing device with a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE or Safari) and an Internet connection will work. This includes desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. 

Where can I access the online distance courses?
School, home or anywhere else with a public WiFi. 

When can I access the online distance courses?
Pearson PowerSchool Distance Learning courses are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.  

How do the online distance courses work?
Each course is individual and delivered through self-paced asynchronous instruction.You can start and stop units within a course as time permits. The distant learning courses feature audio, graphics, text, and search capabilities to maximize the retention for each learner. The courses include simulation and authentic assessment. 

Is there an instructor for the online distance course?
No. The courses are online and self-paced asynchronous instruction.

What online distance courses are available?

See the PDF attachment at the bottom of this webpage for a course catalog.

How long does it take to complete an online distance course?

As the courses vary in size and are self-paced, the time required to complete a course can range from one to four hours.

How do I get access to online distance courses?
Send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for a PowerSource userid and password. Once you sign in to PowerSource, you have access to all the online distance courses. You can then launch (enroll) in any of the listed courses.

What happens when I am enrolled in an online distance course?
An email is sent which provides a link to PowerSource where the distant learning courses are located.  Follow the link and set a password for your userid. You are then ready to select and launch (enroll) in any course.

Is there any cost for the online distance course?

No. Courses are free to any school employee within SAU 24 who is a PowerSchool user. You can participate in an unlimited number of distance learning courses and repeat courses as needed.

PowerSchool - Mastery in Minutes

What are the Mastery in Minutes tutorials?
Pearson's PowerSchool Mastery in Minutes tutorials are designed to provide quick answers to common PowerSchool questions you might encounter daily. Each tutorial lasts between three to five minutes and leverages realistic PowerSchool scenarios that engage users and encourage prompt application of newfound knowledge.

With Mastery in Minutes, PowerSchool users will not only understand the function taught, but also learn the background necessary to put the task into perspective.

For teachers the self-paced series include tutorials focusing on common grade book tasks like attendance, copying assignments, extra points, maximum points, and running reports.

For staff members the self-paced series include tutorials focusing on common administrative tasks like attendance codes, dropping a student, enrolling a student, generating reports, etc.

PowerSchool for Staff - FAQ

What computing devices can I use to access PowerSchool?
Any computing device with a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE or Safari) and an Internet connection will work. This includes desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

Is the information that we are sending back and forth about the students, staff, and teachers encrypted? 
Yes. The school is following the federal guidelines to keep our information secure.


Do I have to change my password?
For the safety of our students' confidential information, please select a password that is secure. For your own security, use different passwords for different applications.


What happens if I forget to logout? Why am I always being logged out?
If you have not accessed PowerSchool for approximately 30 minutes, you will automatically be logged out as a security measure. 


Why can't I find a student?
If the student is located in another school, then you might not have rights to view students in that school.
OR
If the student has transferred out of the school, then the student is no longer active. You need to prefix the name with a forward slash (/) to view an inactive student.
OR
If the student has graduated from the school, then you might not have rights to view graduated students.


Why can't I see certain screens of student data or view specific fields on a screen?
The policy of the school is granting a person the minimal access rights required to perform their job. This helps the school comply with state and federal regulations regarding student data privacy. For example - a staff member would not have access to student medical information.


Can I print what I see in PowerSchool?
The best way to print is to use the Print Page icon located at the top of the page in PowerSchool.


What happens to my reports that are left in the report queue?
Your reports are held for 10 days then automatically deleted for security.


How do I use email to communicate in PowerSchool?
PowerSchool is configured to work with client email systems like Microsoft Outlook. 
PowerSchool does not work with web-based email systems like Google Gmail. 
To use a web-based email system like Google Gmail, hover the mouse over the teacher’s name and a ‘mailto:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.’ will appear in the lower-left corner of your screen.  Copy this address into your web-based email system and send message.

Tech Thursdays

What is Tech Thursday?
In-house training provided to teachers, staff, and administrators on technology used within Weare Middle School.

When is Tech Thursday?
Every week on Thursday a session is held from 2:15 to 3:15 PM in the 8th Grade Common Room

What topics are covered in Tech Thursday?
Google Gmail, Google Spreadsheet, Google Docs, Google Presentation, and Google Chat to name a few.

Reservations

Why are reservations necessary?
The school's technology resources are limited and conflicts can arise when multiple people need access to the same resource at the same time.

Who can make a reservation?
A reservation for a computer lab can be made by a teacher, staff member or administrator.
A reservation for a piece of computer related hardware (i.e. portable projector) can be made by a teacher, staff member or administrator.

What resources can be reserved?
The following computer labs can be reserved:
Computer Lab (U66)
Computer Lab (Tech/Arts)

The following equipment can be reserved:
Laptop Cart - PC
Laptop Cart - HP Mini PC
Portable Projector
PC Speakers

How are computer lab resources handled?
Reservations will be added to the calendar on a first come, first serve basis.
